Congratulations to the senior student-athletes and retiring coaches honored tonight at the annual Senior Athletic Awards Night!
Alexis Buchanan and Evan Copley were honored with the distinguished Pat Izzo Memorial Award. The Pat Izzo Memorial Award is awarded to those who display sportsmanship, school spirit, character, desire, and leadership. It honors students who, although maybe not the star athlete, are always there with a smile, rooting on their team, motivating others and leading with integrity. The Award is in memory of the late Pat Izzo, a Mountaineer who left us too soon. Alexis and Evan’s names have been added to the list of awardees on the Pat Izzo Memorial Award plaque that hangs in the Izzo-Mariucci Building.
Isabella Pickett and Oskar Kangas were presented with the prestigious Izzo-Mariucci Scholarship Award. The Izzo-Mariucci Scholarship award is a $5,000 scholarship awarded to Iron Mountain senior student athletes who aspire to be in a lettered sport (or club sport) at the college or university level, who demonstrate qualities of good sportsmanship and high moral character, and have participated in a multiple high school sports. Bella and Oskar’s names have been added to the list of awardees on the Izzo-Mariucci trophy that is displayed in the Izzo-Mariucci Building.
Our retiring coaches, Mr. Harvey “Bucky” Johnson, Mr. Robin “Marty” Marttila, and Mrs. Jeanne Newrberry were honored at the ceremony and thanked for their years of service to Iron Mountain Public Schools.
Most Valuable Player honors were presented to student-athletes by Iron Mountain High School coaches for Mountaineer sports whose names will be displayed in the halls of the Izzo-Mariucci Center, full list of MVP honorees are included below. All senior athletes were presented with a Senior Athlete Plaque, courtesy of the Iron Mountain Athletic Booster Club.

Most Valuable Lineman: Alec Haferkorn
Most Valuable Back of the Year: Alex Jayne
Football MVP: Alex Jayne

Cheer MVP: Ashley Spade
Bowling MVP: Abigail Ward
Wrestling MVP: Daniel Manier
Boys Basketball MVP: Oskar Kangas
Girls Basketball MVP: Macy Linsenbigler and Isabella Pickett
Boys Track MVP: Bryce Davis
Girls Track MVP: Isabella Pickett
Girls Soccer MVP: Alexis Buchanan
Softball MVP: Juliana Tapio and Macy Linsenbigler
Boys Tennis MVP: Evan Copley
